Come on Game of Thrones, for a show that spend a third of it’s air time on sex scenes, you’re seriously lacking in girl on girl representation. The closest we’ve gotten to some real lesbian interaction was Doreah teaching Darnerys how to sleep with Khal Drogo, the implication that Ellaria Sands (Oberyn Martell’s lover) likes women in bed and a couple of random sex scenes, which practically pales in comparison with the amount of straight stuff going on per episode. What happened to the fact that both Daenerys Targaryen and Cersei Lannister are both canonically bisexual in the A Song of Fire and Ice books? Are we going to get any of that?
^the only lesbian sex scene in Game of Thrones so far.
Well, right now, the answer seems to be up in the air. The girl who was supposed to be Daenerys’ main squeeze, Doreah is now dead in the show so that’s out the window and we can’t be sure they’re going to follow Cersei’s storyline with the woman she has a weird more than friendship with-Taena Merryweather either. The friendship does start once she starts to distance herself from her lover/brother (lovether? brover? I can’t think of a name for it) though, so maybe there’s still hope for that. As for Dany, there’s still some possibility of some romantic/sexual interaction, even though Missandei was given a possible romantic storyline with Grey Worm.
While same sex relationships seem to still be taboo In the Game of Throne world, as we saw with Renly, labels of sexual orientation are unclear and seem to not be as clear cut in Westeros. I can’t see why they wouldn’t follow through with making either woman bisexual (in our speak), especially since homosexuality seems to be slowly seeping into the mainstream and becoming a more popular topic so it would only help their already sky rocketing ratings. Here’s hoping Game of Thrones incorporates this representation and that they do it well.
