A wonderful photographer from Italy named Guia Besana recently released a great photo series entitled “Under Pressure”. The photos depict what it’s like to be a woman in today’s day and age in a very interesting and sometimes even creepy way.
The pictures don’t only show mainstream concerns like the unrealistic expectations of magazines and media we’re always talking about, but depict a variety of different issues like the Disney princess ideal (see below), the unequal pay gap and it was also cool how she didn’t stick to primarily Italian issues, but had a nice range of issues involving women of different cultures.
Huffinton post wrote that in an email to them, Guia Besana said “I wanted to create a discussion and represent a contradiction, [Women are expected] to be ‘appropriate’ and ’empowered’ all at once, which can create conflict, and this is what ‘Under Pressure’ is about.”
She had also previously said about the project “The idea is to describe women in contemporary society, with their neuroses and conflicts but with a twist, representing themes involving women identity.”
What she names the pictures is really cool too. Instead of having individual names, the photographs are instead named “Condition #1” and etcetera.
Here are just a couple of them:

I have to admit, I didn’t understand a few of them, but that’s most probably a product of not living some of those situations. They did, however, force me to really think about them, which I’m pretty sure is totally what she was going for so kudos. What did you guys think of these?
