I’ve been using this excuse for years at times when I’ve been particularly negligent about working out or going to the gym, and it works like a charm: “Well, sex is a form of exercise, right? I don’t need to use the stationary bike or go for a run because my boyfriend is coming over later!” I still maintain that it’s an OK excuse, and I will continue using it until the day I die to prevent myself from feeling terrible about my crappy work-out habits.
Even though I’ve been using the excuse for years, I actually have never had any conception of how MUCH exercise sex is – how many calories am I actually burning during one of my sexual encounters? Is there a big difference between positions in terms of calorie-burning? Is it an actual viable form of exercise or just a pipe dream?
Thankfully, I discovered this handy little tool online which lets you calculate, based on a variety of different variables, exactly how many calories you are burning during sex.
Here’s the link to the tool: http://www.sexcalculator.co.uk/
You can specify your body type, the position, how vigorous the intercourse was, and the tool will churn out the specific amount of calories that you’ve burnt off. I tried out a variety of different options.
For example, as an “Average Joe” female, performing reverse cowgirl passionately for 16-29 minutes, I would be burning a total of 84.7875 calories. The number is pretty underwhelming actually. I guess something is better than nothing, but I was expecting the calorie loss to be more substantial! I guess I better hold back on those pre-sex cheeseburgers, because I ain’t even gonna be burning off half of one!
I guess I could try and have the best of both words by having sex and working out often and actively, but…MEH.
You can also share your findings through social media, which seems like a little too much information for your loyal followers. Then again, this is a tool that seems like it could be handy for just about anyone who is sexually active.
I’ll be resorting to this tool often, whenever my sexual activity “outweighs” my time in the gym. Hint: my sexual activity ALWAYS outweighs my time in the gym!
